Sporting and Conservation Alliance: The Future of Conservation in SE Mass
Preserving Open Space.
Protecting Heritage.
Ensuring Access.
Southeastern Massachusetts is defined by its landscapes—from the North River to the Pine Barrens. Historically, the groups that protect and enjoy these lands have operated in silos. The Sporting and Conservation Alliance is the bridge.
Whether you are a hiker, an angler, a bird-watcher, or a sportsman, we are all fighting the same battle: habitat fragmentation, water pollution, and the permanent loss of open space. We are the unified voice for our region’s natural resources.

Our Purpose in a Changing World
The Alliance serves as a force multiplier for local Land Trusts, Watershed Associations, and Sporting Organizations.
The "Shared Acre" Philosophy:
Our primary mission is the preservation of the land itself. We provide the "boots on the ground" infrastructure. While partner NGOs work to acquire land, Alliance volunteers provide the labor for habitat restoration, youth hunting opportunities, and community fishing
Civic Advocacy for Open Space:
We bring 18,000+ residents to the table. When a parcel of woods faces development, we show legislators that open space is a priority for the entire community.
Active Land Management:
We bridge the gap between "Preservation" and "Sustainability." By supporting initiatives like urban archery deer hunting, we help manage wildlife populations to maintain healthy forest regeneration and aid in the control of tick-borne diseases, creating a safer environment for every hiker and explorer.
THE FIVE PILLARS OF THE ALLIANCE
Stewardship: Preserving Open Space
Our core focus is keeping "Green Space Green," protecting the forests and tidal marshes that define our region.
Mentors: Literacy of the Land
We teach "Ecological Literacy," leading field-based talks on identifying native species and understanding the local water cycle.
Educators: Skills & Safety
From National Archery in the Schools to safety clinics, we teach the next generation that focus and discipline are the cornerstones of outdoor responsibility.
Protectors: The Frontline
We host community trail walks and monitoring programs to track the health of our local ecosystems and waterways.
Heritage: Sporting Traditions
The Alliance celebrates the traditions of shooting sports and sustainable harvest. These disciplines promote a deep, personal connection to the natural world.
THE CLASSROOM & THE FIELD (EDUCATION)
A major aspect of our work here at SEMSCA is education. It is the younger generations who will continue to steward the land, and we are determined to prepare them as best we can.
Our educational programs (available to people of all ages) include:
- Open Space Advocacy: Training for members on how to support local land acquisitions.
- Guided Discovery Walks: Seasonally-themed walks focusing on birding, tracking, and forest health.
- Outdoor Skills Clinics: Foundational workshops in archery, fishing, and marksmanship.
- MassWildlife Education: Supporting the state’s gold standard for safe and ethical land use.
TOOLS FOR MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS
Centralized Communications Hub:
A platform for club fundraising, Land Trust galas, and "Calls to Action."

Automated Outreach:

THE ROAD TO
By uniting the heritage of our 1929 sporting roots with the mission of our partner Land Trusts and Watershed associations, we are building a force of 40,000 voices to ensure Southeastern Massachusetts remains wild, clean, and open.
Thank you to everyone who came out to pick up their sign!
The journey to modernize Massachusetts hunting laws has reached a critical final stage, and we need YOUR voice to cross the finish line.
Originally started by Governor Healey in House Budget H5377, our three priority hunting bills have been amended into Senate Bill S.3064. Right now, S.3064 is in front of a Conference Committee tasked with resolving the differences between the House and Senate versions.
The legislators on this committee need to hear from the sportsmen and women of Massachusetts TODAY.
